Desiree Godsell

Desiree Godsell was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and graduated from the High School of Performing and Visual Arts. She continued on to receive a B.F.A. in Dance Performance from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and immediately moved to NYC to begin choreographing
and dancing for the Atlantic recording artist Santigold – touring internationally and opening for musicians such as Coldplay, Kanye West, Jay-Z, MIA, and Rihanna, to name a few.

Desiree began her salsa career straight at the top, partnering with the mambo king himself,
Eddie Torres

Since then, she's danced with Griselle Ponce & Jersey's Finest, Sekou McMiller, Maria Torres, Andy Cruz, Eddie Torres All Stars, Caribbean Soul, and starred in LaMambopera off Broadway, on Telefutura's "Quiero Ser Estrella", and was a salsa coach on two episodes of MTV's MADE.

She's been on David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, Conan O'Brian, Jules Holland, and Stephen Colbert. She's currently producing a dance concert series called The Pearl in Brooklyn, NY, dancing kizomba with Manuel Dos Santos, working with Caribbean Soul, and producing innovative choreography and teaching Latin Jazz & Salsa with the Godsell Dance Collective in New York City!

Private Lessons, Classes, and Workshops

As a classically trained dancer and salsa/mambo instructor and performer, Desiree travels nationally and internationally to spread her love for the art of latin dance. She specializes in salsa on2 and incorporates her classical knowledge into all of her teachings. Whether you're taking a private lesson or attending an intensive workshop, Desiree focuses on developing a strong base for dancers who want to build on or improve their current skill set. See below for more information on private lessons, classes, and workshops.

Are you a seasoned salsera who needs to work on performance technique? Or maybe you just started your dance journey and want to improve your movement, isolations, and spinning? Privates are the best way to improve at your own pace to focus on your specific dance goals and needs.

With Desiree’s background and experience as a classically-trained dancer, instructor, and veritable salsera, she’ll have you improving that 5-6-7 with flavor!

2014 has certainly keep me busy with many exciting projects and this week I'm happy to announce the debut of MAMBOMAMBO, a new work from the Godsell Dance Collective premiering in the concert dance series E-moves at Harlem Stages.

MAMBOMAMBO is a new work that explores two of the most influential times of Latin Dance in NYC. The dancers "shine" as they capture the spirit of the Palladium and it's creation of larger than life personalities, weaving elements of Modern dance into repetitious playful interactions. Dancing to Fania the focus shifts to footwork and turn patterns, with the  exuberant energy and excitement that continues to attract audiences to Mambo today.

Come out this weekend to witness the joy of dance and the theatrical flavor of MAMBOMAMBO. This piece is in Program A Friday night April 4th and 11th at Harlem Stages. Show starts at 7:30. Tickets on sale at

Desiree is an SG1 – one-half of a dancing duo for Atlantic recording artist Santigold: A singer, songwriter, and producer from Philadelphia who has made it to the top of the Billboard Dance/Electronic charts for her 2012 sophomore album Master of My Make Believe.

The SG1 Dancers bring power, talent, and sex appeal to the stage–delivering the dopest choreography and unusual execution, redefining what it means to be background dancers.
